[ Of course Shinobu wants to explore the entire camp so of course she makes her way towards the isolation cabin. That there's a jail here is... hm. It's a little telling. For all the fun that their hosts want them to have, it seems that they also expect there's a chance for things to get out of hand.
It's not surprising, and she smiles when she sees Dimitri. ]
[ It's almost certainly a precautionary measure, but for what? It's like, 5 feet from some board games. Talk about a tonal shift from the cutesy camp environment.
He shuts the door behind him as he steps in, and it only takes a moment for him to sound exasperated. ]
I don't know whether to trust them, but they were very insistent—ah! [ He immediately drops whatever he was holding, probably just some stupid board game piece to drift closer. ] Kocho— [ the 'miss' is gone forever now ] you're injured?
[ If he'd really hated her, he definitely wouldn't be feeling any concern right now, but he's not going to sit and unpack that right now. ]
[ Well, Shinobu did beat up Giyuu upon first sight. She kicked him a few times.
She doesn't know if it's a good thing Dimitri dropped the honorific. She's not going to dwell on it. Shinobu smiles and waves a hand. ]
It's fine. It'll heal in time. They seem sympathetic enough, so either they're very good actors, or someone will come and interfere, if things take a turn for the worse, but we have no proof of either.
Please do not gloss over your potentially broken nose. Does it hurt?
[ There's no point speculating whether or not they'll wake up to more gruesome murders soon, probably. Hopefully Thursday will just come and go without incident. ]
To do things alone means not having someone to help you... Was this not part of Giyuu's ill-fated attempt to take off—? [ whatever the hell this is. he motions to the scrunchie at his wrist. ]
I would be fine with someone else there, as back up or as help, but I wanted possible effects to be contained.
[ She wanted safer experimentation. Or as close as she could get since she was trying to see what safety or injuries were at stake. ]
The guide called it a scrunchie. Yes, I wanted to see what would happen, and he joined. I also tested to see if we needed to wear the one we woke up with or one in general.
[ He doesn't think of Shinobu as a reckless woman overall—certainly more level-headed than he is—but both she and Giyuu take on personal risk like nobody's business. Seems like it was fruitful(?) though. ]
[ Again. It's all cycling back again, and for all he said he wouldn't believe the truth until it was sprawled out in front of him, it's no easier to accept now that it's become reality. Those voices, distorted and mocking. The death, the new rules.
He doesn't spare a second for greetings when a familiar face approaches where he's sitting by the bonfire near the cabins, scowling out the rulebook, nerves flared. ]
[ Isn't this familiar? Right back at their investigations all over again. He nods, practiced by now, chinning over to the Ram cabin. ]
I've been waiting for the chance.
[ Probably not a threat, but who can say. After something like this happens, of course he'd need to stare Giyuu down a while. On that note, bluntly, almost tonelessly, ]
[ His suspicion of Giyuu is warranted and valid. It almost makes her want to laugh. She has to pause because she's not tone deaf.
She shakes her head. ]
I don't, but I also didn't consider him before it was almost too late last time. He's angrier than I've seen him, and he's less reticent than he was on the island.
But if it is him, I'll put my sword through him.
[ She's already committed to that in her mind and in her heart. ]
[ Shinobu knows Giyuu better—the 'real' Giyuu, outside any of the island's influence. And they've both been betrayed once before. If anyone could tell if he took even one step out of line, it'd be her. So he nods. ]
You know I would do the same.
[ To Giyuu, or whoever. ]
For now though, I'll put my efforts to finding whoever killed Tsurumaru. If it's anything like our own ritual, his murderer may not be the 'mastermind' at all.
[ She can't help it. Her hand drifts to her chest, over the area he stabbed her three times. She knows. ]
I do know. It's hard to say how much is similar to what we experienced at all. Evil should be destroyed, but I want a solution that minimizes the amount of death.
[ She just doesn't know how possible that is. ]
If there's only one murder, I doubt the one behind it is who we truly seek.
[ He sees it, something twisting in his own chest before he turns his eyes forward.
Could they do better, this time? ]
You're likely right.
[ He pulls a knee to his chest, letting the rulebook close. ]
...It doesn't sound like any of the other settings worked the way our island did, either. If there's a mastermind to find, tracking them down may be an entirely different process than before.
[ Their process in finding Giyuu almost ended in failure. That's something that weighs heavily on her even now. They all carry a certain amount of guilt to different degrees, but the only way to go is forward. ]
It's odd that we are the outlier in having some kind of mastermind. [ It kills her a little to say mastermind because her view of Giyuu is that he's somewhat (a lot) of an airheaded idiot. ] Even though we are, we don't know what we'll have to face yet. For now, every option is possible. I won't stop until we can leave.
[ She smiles. Just like the bonfire that somehow isn't diminishing in the rain, her determination will continue to burn. ]
I know you won't either. We can be better than before. [ Her voice becomes softer. ] We can always be better.
[ Their illustrious "mastermind." He seems so... hapless here, sometimes, it really is hard to think of him that way.
But that isn't enough to just hope that the threat is past them. He nods. ]
We'll end things differently.
[ If they had just seen the truth a little bit sooner. If they could manage it now. ]
I am still getting my bearings here, but even after tomorrow, I don't intend to rest idly. The nature of this 'game' has changed on us... And as you say, anything is possible. The sooner we discover the truth, the sooner we can tear down its foundation.
[ This entire weekend has been one terrible thing after another, and it's taken its toll on Shinobu. She knows it's taken its toll out of everyone, one way or another. She remembers the curfew effect for those who saw midnight at the theater. She remembers his words during the trial and the execution to others, and that's why she seeks Dimitri out wherever he is. ]
