[ Hello, kitchen, everyone's old friend. Shinobu is here to make tea again. She may not exactly need it as much as she usually would after a trial, but she's feeling enough that she needs something to do with her hands. ]
Wright-san. For people who've done this before, we're terrible at it, aren't we?
[ It seems she doesn't care enough to mince her words any.
She's smiling now even though she was barely smiling throughout the entire trial. It's not a happy smile. ]
I'd offer you something to drink... but you've got it covered much better than I have.
[ but yeah, he won't push. tea is fine. ]
From what I'm hearing, a lot of the prizes given lend themselves to helping cover up a crime scene. Unfortunately, we can't responsibly share or pinpoint team affiliations.
That's a good start. We can also split up into groups to discuss theories -- try to get everyone to test curfew effects friday morning, and things like that. To save time, which we don't really have a lot of.
[ because who knows what the mini event will bring
Apparently, cabins need to be worked on this week because of the weather. Shinobu doesn't want things to be leaked on in the Spider Cabin, so she's doing her very best on a ladder.
She may be tiny, but at least her balance is terrific. She has a hammer in her hand whenever Phoenix is around. ]
Hell—
[ Is all she gets out before the childhood trauma. That sure is her parents getting killed and dead on the floor, and that sure is Shinobu huddling with her older sister before they're saved by a blind man wielding some kind of weapon on a chain. ]
[ anyway, phoenix is out in the rain with his brelly, and as soon as he sees shinobu he makes a beeline for -- not just because he wants the voucher, but because he doesn't want to leave her out in the rain alone. ]
[ he's just approaching as the memory hits and--- ]
[ of course she's an orphan too. is there anyone here that isn't an orphan? ]
[ his expression doesn't change, but his voice is soft when he speaks. ]
Ah, the memory sharing strikes again. Her expressions softens, and she shakes her head. ]
I'm not the only one here who's experienced loss. [ She's not trying to dismiss it, but it's not something they need to dwell on for too long. ] I carry them with me always in my heart.
[ phoenix opens his mouth to say something -- but that's about the time a memory happens! speaking of turnabout sisters!! ]
[ you're a lawyer... with one case under your belt. you're new, and green, but under the steady hand of your mentor, you're growing. ]
[ or at least, that's what should have happened. but it didn't. she was murdered in her office...... when you stumbled upon the seen you saw her younger sister, a girl in her teens, sobbing over the corpse. she didn't seem guilty to you..... but everyone else seemed to think so. you try to find a lawyer to defend her, but no one will. you offer to contact her family for her, but she tells you she had no one but her sister. ]
[ that's when you make the decision. the whole reason you became a lawyer? because someone has to look out for the people who have no on their side. ]
[ your investigation brings you to one man.. redd white. a blackmailer who has history with your mentor and his sister -- on top of killing mia and framing maya for it, he has further history. apparently, he ruined their mother... the whole reason mia started investigating him. ]
[ as you investigate, you notice that he's stolen much of the evidence she had on him. almost all of it, actually. but you find some... linking his blackmail to suicides across the country. it's enough to confront him, maybe make him confess. ]
[ the last time you spoke to this guy, he punched you. but you can't leave this be. you confront him. ]
[ it doesn't go well. he tells you he has the courts and the police in his pocket and he's right -- before you know what's happening, you're arrested for mia's murder instead. maya shows up, and she wants to help you.... but you don't think she can. ]
[ after all, the court system changed years ago. now, trials are settled within days, if not just one..... and the verdicts are always guilty. you don't doubt that the prosecution will be in redd's plan to frame you, either. ]
[ Shinobu almost topples off this ladder. Stepladder? She braces herself before she does. The memory is vivid enough, and she wonders what happened to make him go from what he was in the memory to how he is now. ]
How did that end?
[ Her voice is soft, as she tries to remember herself outside a sister's death so fresh and an abhorrent man who deserves justice served swiftly but within a corrupt system. ]
[ he is instinctively braced to catch her, even as they're both reliving this memory - but when she ends up maintaining her balance, he's still underneath. ]
.... We caught the killer. Maya, and I.
[ so that particular sister death had a happy ending.. ish. ]
[ Shinobu is coming down. It's a little more dangerous now that memories can fly at any time. ]
I'm glad to hear that. I'm glad you were able to get justice even against such a corrupt system.
[ She's sincere and heartfelt. What little she learned of Redd White in that memory was enough for her to want him to face death for all the deaths he caused. ]
And I'm glad that man can no longer bring harm to others.
We became demon slayers. It was a lot of hard work, and we had to bother a few people, but we did it.
[ It's not like the two of them were able to halt all demon activity, but what they've done is not necessarily enough, but it is more than they knew they could do when they first started. ]

[ it's fine. he's always smiling, though she can probably also guess it's not exactly happy. they match! ]
Quite terrible. I think we relied too much on our hosts holding our hands.... at least, in my group.
[ right to the point ]
no subject
We didn't have any hosts on the island, but we only ever managed to find the culprit when it was in the last half hour or so.
I wouldn't mind having our hands held, if it meant we didn't continuously fail.
[ What use is pride, if the innocent keep getting damned? ]
no subject
[ ... ]
I feel like finding culprits in the last half hour is pretty universal, though.
[ he's gonna start to make a sandwich... ] Hungry?
no subject
[ She may not be as sick with anger and sadness as she could be, but she's also feeling too drained to think about eating much.
Tea is fine for whatever degree of unsettled she is. ]
I do think what your theory on the team responsible is correct.
no subject
[ but yeah, he won't push. tea is fine. ]
From what I'm hearing, a lot of the prizes given lend themselves to helping cover up a crime scene. Unfortunately, we can't responsibly share or pinpoint team affiliations.

I know. I hate how we're forced to be opaque or else it harms others. I would do anything to be able to be more transparent.
[ That the truth hurts literally here is something that infuriates her, but at the moment, it's more like a simmering annoyance. ]
no subject
It certainly makes things very frustrating, on every level.
no subject
I wish there were a way around it.
no subject
For now, I think just guesswork, vague statements, and telling no more than three people a week.
no subject
I think you know what I meant, and I know wishing won't change the reality. It never does.
no subject
And do better.
no subject
[ They did not have much this time around, and she knows she had nothing much more than anyone else to put forward in terms of theories.
She'd be angrier at herself, if she could. ]
no subject
And better organization, overall.
no subject
How do you propose we go about that? We were less distracted this week.
no subject
Delegate, probably. And work on a suspect list from the get-go... in case we get any opportunities like that one.
no subject
Should we all pick up different responsibilities, then? Such as how 45-san is usually the one to call for where we all were on Thursday nights?

week 3, tuesday

.... Seems like everyone here has.
[ so many orphans everywhere. ]
And you have an older sister, hmm.....
[ that's a lil nostalgic. ]
no subject
I had an older sister.
[ Her smile is fixed on her face. The pain of her sister's death is more raw than her parents'. ]
no subject

[ redd white indeed face the death penalty. ]
But yeah. He was a pretty vile man.

[ It's not like the two of them were able to halt all demon activity, but what they've done is not necessarily enough, but it is more than they knew they could do when they first started. ]
Have you convicted more men like him since then?
no subject
[ he smiles gently. ]
... Yeah, in my days as a lawyer. That was a long time ago, though.
[ lawyer slayer... ]
no subject
[ It was a goal, and now she's... here. ]
Why did you stop being a lawyer?
no subject
[ and he can relate..... tragic lunch money past. ]
... It wasn't by choice. I was accused of forging evidence, and had my badge taken away from me.... about seven years ago.
no subject
Did someone frame you? I'm sorry.
no subject
You don't think I did it?
[ come back to life ara ]
no subject
Should I? Would someone who's trying to take care of so many of the teenagers do something like that?
You must be a very good actor, then, to be so convincingly awkward.
