[ if another day works better for you, let me know! please feel free to give me a loved one death and revenge memory too!!
Wherever Magnus is, Shinobu greets him with a smile. She's doing her best not to get too wet or not to make anything too wet from the rain. ]
I hope today has been treating you well.
[ And also, have a memory. The girl in Shinobu's arms is her sister, and she is dying. Her last words do nothing to soothe Shinobu or her desire for vengeance. Her older sister, Kanae, was and is the most important person to Shinobu.
It takes four years until Shinobu finally meets the demon that kills her sister, and her hatred and anger boils to the surface before she can even think, especially after he kills the person she tried to save.
It's time for vengeance. That's her first and foremost thought. ]
[Tuesday works! He's ducking into a room, wet from the rain himself. He goes to greet Shinobu - ]
Hah. Sure, besides this rain -
[And then is punched in the gut by the good shit.
Normally, Magnus lets the memories run their course, waits for the person whose memory it is to say something before he reacts. He doesn't like intruding on someone else's privacy, or telling them how to feel about their most important moments.
But when this memory ends, his fist is clenched, his teeth grit. The hatred and anger he felt during the memory doesn't subside when the memory ends, but lingers, making him want to wring someone's neck.]
[ There's a small pause because she doesn't quite expect this reaction to her memory, and it takes her a moment to come back to herself. Those were some of her most vivid emotions.
She takes a deep breath and smiles. ]
He is dead, but I did not land the killing blow.
[ She doesn't sound like she's completely disappointed by that, only a fraction. ]
[ She opens her mouth to reply and then shuts it when the memory hits. Her eyes lower, and her expression softens. She doesn't know if she could be as accepting or as goodhearted as Magnus could be about this sacrifice (he told Taako and Merle to fucking kill a dude AS ACCEPTING OR AS GOODHEARTED). ]
No, it doesn't change that. It didn't change for you, too, I hope. Even if you don't remember who it is anymore, I hope your friends murder that man.
[ Murdered? She hopes he's past tense for Magnus' sake. ]
They're liches - undead magical guys who stay alive by feeding on energy. These ones fed on energy from suffering, so they made a whole game just to cause it.
[So. Not very sympathetic reasons.]
Extremely like - [Gesturing? At this? Entire camp?]. We went down there to get the magical artifact that was letting them pull this stuff off, and got caught in their game. Had to spin the wheel and take a punishment to move forward, and if you didn't accept what the wheel said, the stakes got higher and higher. If I'd said no, Taako and Merle would've had to go through something even worse.
[ Her expression hardens. She doesn't like the sound of liches at all. Hearing about what challenged he had to go through, anything that's like this camp at all, it makes her anger flare.
She didn't ask if the liches deserved to die, but now she thinks they did deserve to. ]
That's a terrible thing to call a game. [ Just like the camp. ] You managed to turn something that was meant to cause you suffering into something hopeful.
[ She smiles, and it's sweet and genuine. ]
That speaks of your heart more than anything else. As cavalier as you can be about violence, you really are kind.
I guess you see it as - fighting demons and fighting humans are two different things? [Since she seemed. Pretty comfortable with violence when it came to demons.]
Yes. Demons were once humans. [ Shinobu will be upfront about this. They were once, but they are no longer.] Once they turn into demons, they usually lose all sense of who they used to be. All that stands out is the desire to kill and consume humans to become stronger.
[ Her voice becomes quieter, but it also becomes heavier as her anger surfaces. Sometimes, asking about demons leads to a tangent. ]
They do so without any remorse, without any compunction. All they care about is themselves and not at all about how they're tearing down the happiness of others by wanton murder.
Yeah. Liches are a lot like that, most of the time.
[She can tangent about demons as long as she wants - he gets it. He gets the hatred you feel towards something like that, who took away someone precious to you.]
Then again, I've met one or two liches who weren't so bad. And a lot of humans who are awful.
... I know. I know not all demons are the same. I know there are terrible humans, too. Our circumstances make it hard not to see how terrible any kind of person can be, demon, human, or otherwise.
[ It's hard to separate feelings from logic sometimes, as much as she tries. She breathes out, as if that'll make her hatred recede.
She smiles. ]
There's a demon girl back home that hasn't eaten anyone that my adopted sisters adore. She's likely going to be the hope of our world.

. . . You kill him?

[He doesn't have any issue with wanting someone dead who did that.]

I didn't have the strength to cut off his head.
[ That's her big issue. Her tiny size means she doesn't have enough physical power. ]
But I poisoned him enough that someone could.

[In fact - here's his memory. Magnus spins a wheel, and two liches force him to make a difficult choice.]

[It is a nice memory, in a way. The liches intended to hurt him, but instead, he was able to trust Taako and Merle.]
And we did kill those fuckin' liches. So there's that.

[ She’s not judging that murder too much because she’d want to keep her memories, but why did that even have to happen in the first place? ]

I'm not some crazy violent maniac, you know! That's just how we talk, but we only go after really bad guys.

[ Flashback to what he did to C3PO. She still doesn't know how robot disarmament fits into this, but it's probably? okay? now? ]

Yes. Deep down, it's hard to deny that I feel repulsion on instinct. It's unfair, I know, but I can't help it.
