What were you doing that you came across a manticore?

[ That's very worrying. She moves to grab some bandages and some charms she's commissioned to aid with healing. While her expression doesn't shift, her grip on the items seems to be a little tight.

It's almost like she's unaware.

She turns to Hunter with a question. ]

Did you find her, or...?

[ Were they doing something that split them up? ]

We were checking out the area where all those meteors fell, and the manticore was close by.

[At that question, though... He immediately looks very Tired, glancing Beau's way again.]

Maybe you should explain this part, so you can explain what exactly you were thinking.

[ WOW JUST FUCKIN TOSS HER UNDER THE BUS, HUNTER ]

Look, I'm way better at fighting than you, and I can also fly, so it makes more sense that I distracted it, Hunter! [ scowl. ] It wasn't just gonna run after a piece of jerky on it's own, so I had to add some incentive. It's fine, I'm not even that badly hurt.

[ she glances at shinobu. ] Honestly.

[ Shinobu is not impressed. She smiles. ]

You don't know what your back looks like, and you look feverish. At the moment, it looks like you were poisoned by it.

[ Does she have an antidote on hand...?

No, so she works on cleaning the wound before wrapping it in bandages. Her hands aren't quite as gentle as she usually is. ]

Did you have to distract it?

She didn't.

[This time he's answering for her, RIP Beau. To Shinobu, though:]

Is she going to be okay...?

[ WOW RUDE. also, she flinches slightly at the rougher treatment, though she doesn't say anything. as shinobu is tending to her, she'll notice beau's blood is sort of shimmery. ]

I did have to, yes. [ >:U ] We weren't gonna get up on the meteorite if I didn't. I've had way worse than this.

[ Is Beau's blood supposed to shimmery? She looks at it carefully but doesn't say anything quite yet. ]

I say this every so often, but I do mean it every time I say it to someone: just because you've had worse than this and lived doesn't mean you should.

[ So maybe she's siding with Hunter here. ]

Did investigating the meteorite illuminate anything for you?

[ As she begins to wrap the bandages around Beau, it becomes increasingly more obvious that she's wrapping them too tightly. It's almost like she's trying to constrict Beau.

Shinobu's eyes widen, but it's like her hands can't stop. It's like she can't make them stop. ]

[ who knows! probably! ]

I don't know, ask Hunter. He won't tell me because I'm injured. [ she says, but - shinobu is starting to wrap her wounds, and it kind of hurts? it actually really hurts, and beau squirms, looking uncomfortable, trying to shimmy away. ]

Hey - hey, that's too tight, I think -- [ she starts, wincing again as she tries to move away. ]

[He's about to answer, probably, but he's immediately glancing between Shinobu and Beau as she starts to protest and pull away. Taking a step closer, he meets Shinobu's eye, frowning.]

Hey - be careful, I think you're hurting her.

[For all he knows, it's an honest mistake, so he doesn't say anything more.]

[ Shinobu's lips are set into a firm line, and she looks at Hunter with a serious expression. If he looks even closer, he may see a hint of panic that she's trying to hide. ]

I can't stop.

[ Her words are hushed, but her hands keep moving, deft and sure, pulling the bandages even tighter. ]

What do you mean you can't stop?

[ she wheezes a bit, trying to grab for shinobu's hands. she can't breathe very well, though, and she's still woozy from the fever, which means she's not doing a good job of defending herself. ]

—Wait, what? Hey, Shinobu, stop!

[Give him a second, and he'll understand the implications of that can't, along with her quietly panicked look.

For now, though, he's hurrying towards Shinobu to try and move her away from Beau, pulling back on her shoulders to force that distance. While she'll find him surprisingly strong for whatever reason, the movement definitely isn't meant to hurt her.]

[ Hunter successfully pulls Shinobu away. She stumbles back, but there are still items in her hands. ]

She will be fine.

[ That's her answer to Hunter's previous question that she got distracted from answering. The problem is that now Hunter is the nearest person.

She moves to bind him with the bandages in her hands. Shinobu's brain is racing because she's trying to work out what's happening, but it's not like her brain can stop her body's movements right now. ]

[ oof. beau just flops back a bit, coughing, trying to get her air back. but she's just stupid enough to see the fact that shinobu is now trying to strangle-bind hunter with the bandages and think it's a good idea to pull herself to her feet to try and help.

maybe if she rams into shinobu she will stop? good plan. go. ]

[Well. As soon as he realizes what Shinobu is trying to do!]

What's gotten into you—?!

[As he says that, he's reaching for her hands to try and stop her from making any further progress with that - but that happens to be right when Beau tackles Shinobu, and he lets go in surprise. You're killing your Hunter, Beau.]

—Hey, sit down!

[He will pick you up again, Beau!!]

[ Shinobu goes down! But the d20 didn't roll high enough for the tackle to make her lose grip. ]

I think I'm cursed, but I don't know the exact—

[ She cuts herself off because even on the ground, her hands move. And they move towards Beau.

This is just a revolving door of who's closest. ]

[ NO SIT DOWN, her hunter is in trouble there

of course, now she's on the ground and shinobu's trying to bandage-strangle her again, so that's fun. beau actually grabs for the bandages this time, trying to yank them away. hunter, please help. ]

[He turns towards Shinobu and tries to wrap his arms around her, but he's moving frantically, along with the fact that he isn't used to his new level of energy and power. That means his accuracy is off enough that he misses her. It's fine.

After a second, he'll just try to tug her away again, grabbing at her hands this time.]

[ By the combined power of childhood friends, the bandages are free from her grasp and her hands are still.

She doesn't try to pull away from Hunter. ]

I'm sorry. I"m not sure... how or why that's happening.

[ Her usual calm is a little ruffled, her voice not quite as serene, but she is sincere. She's giving her hands a dark look. ]

[ hunter just rolling around and missing the bandages entirely is why he and beau are friends, honestly.

in any case, beau yeets the bandages across the room and then groans as she flops out on the floor. ow. ]

[Well, now that that's over... He glances between the two of them, frowning once more.]

Are you okay?

[That's to both of them, honestly, though he's kneeling down next to Beau.]

[ Her lips curve into a frown, and she feels it's best if she doesn't move towards Beau just yet. Was it just the bandages, or is it something more? She did... some things earlier this morning, but... ]

I will be fine. Beauregard is more important. It may be better if I tell you how to dress her wounds.

[ She gestures to a healing charm. ]

Please use that. It's meant to ease pain and speed up recovery.

Fine, fine. [ beau manages, rolling over onto her stomach for now. she'll get up in a second. ]

Are you sure, Shinobu? [ she squints over at her. ] Like - normally you don't try to crush the life out of your patients, what's going on?

You mentioned a curse...

[His voice is gentle, though he still looks plenty worried by everything Shinobu is saying. He does take the charm, though.]

Thanks, seriously.

My hands moved of their own volition. None of that was my will.

[ She hates it, thanks. ]

It started today, so I don't know why or how or the details. Otherwise, I wouldn't have—

[ She makes a helpless gesture. ]

Please don't thank me when I did what no doctor should. [ Not that she's a doctor. ] Hunter, make sure her wounds are clear of any dirt and debris again before wrapping bandages around her.
